This tour will take you through the history of the Oltrarno neighborhood of Florence and all along a pleasant exquisite tour of the Uffizi Museum where you will enjoy the most famous Renaissance paintings in the world.
The first part of the Uffizi Museum & Oltrarno Tour is a stroll through the Oltrarno neighborhood (other side of the Arno river) where skillful craftsmen still work in their ateliers using century - old techniques and materials. From these true heirs of the great artists of the past, we will continue the tour in the Uffizi Gallery, whose collection houses some of the most famous Renaissance paintings in the world. We’ll start with the innovations begun by Giotto, then move to the Renaissance with Lippi, Botticelli, and Leonardo da Vinci, then follow the new manner of Michelangelo and Raffaello. Once the tour is over you are free to wonder on your own inside the Gallery.
Our Uffizi Museum & Oltrarno Tour takes you in this lesser-known side of Florence which houses many ateliers where skilled craftsmen carve, sculpt, paint and restore frames, jewellery, paintings and antiques by hand.
You will complete your experience visiting the famous Uffizi painting gallery.
The Medici rulers built the Uffizi palace to house the magistrates’ offices of the duchy but they didn’t worry about spending on decoration! The top floor corridors have frescoed ceilings, Roman statues on display, and portraits of the Medici dynasty.
This historic palace houses one of the most vast collection of Renaissance and Mannerist paintings to be seen in the world.
On our Uffizi and Oltrarno tour we begin the visit discussing the innovations begun by Giotto, then we move in time to the painters of the Renaissance with Lippi, Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci. Afterwards great masters such as Michelangelo, Raffaello follow. We talk about the life and times of the painters in depth to give a better understanding of the art and history of the Renaissance in Florence. Once the tour is over there will be still plenty of time to wonder on own inside the Gallery.
