WHY THE NAME MERCURIO?
The Greek god Hermes, called Mercury (Mercurio) by the Romans,
was the wise messenger of Zeus and
the symbol of communication- the perfect reference for a group
of experienced professional guides whose main mission is
to communicate their knowledge and love for art and culture and to
promote interactive dialogue and exchange. |

WHAT MAKES MERCURIO TOURS DIFFERENT?
- A close-knit group of experienced professional guides has been
leading the Mercurio tours since 1999 revealing to their guests
the immense cultural heritage of Florence and Tuscany and
making them feel at home.
The Mercurio guides are enthusiastic and passionate docents
specialized in archeology, architecture, art, history, landscape,
typical local wine and food.
- The Mercurio guides also raise funds for
the restoration of paintings of the Uffizi through the
yearly initiative “Regalati un Restauro” (Make a gift to yourself:
a restoration!) leading, as volunteers, tours for locals of the “Mai Visti”
exhibit ( Never seen paintings from Uffizi deposits) held
during Christmas Holidays.
- Another project was to provide special
anti-glare glass for masterpieces by Botticelli, Fra
Angelico in the Uffizi: the Mercurio tour participants have
helped sponsor this important project.
- All Mercurio tours are operated by Amici del Turismo, an experienced
and professional Florentine travel agency.
